Schwarzenegger threatens to sue EPA

The April 2007 ruling by the U. S. Supreme Court against the U.S. EPA provides fuel for the California Governors' aggressive stance. The case, which was brought by lead plantiff Massachusetts, found that the EPA does have the authority to regulate tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions, and that ghg's are in fact a pollutant.
Governor Schwazenegger said loudly and clearly that if the EPA does not respond quickly to California's request for stricter in state emissions regulation, he will sue the EPA. At issue is California's request to raise the clean air standards for automobiles sold in state.
Did we really need the highest court in the land to decide that our lead environmental agency does have the authority to protect the environment? Further, couldn't the EPA figure out for itself (based on their own internal findings no less) that auto emissions and greenhouse gases are in fact a pollutant? Politics and economic reality aside, this semantic argument is not one that we as an 'evolved' people should be proud of. We as a nation, as a global community, can do better. These are not an issues of right versus left. I urge all readers to spend the time studying Thomas Friedman's recent treatise titled, The Power of Green.
