Earth Day 2007, Focus on Transportation

If it's not enough of a mind bender to contemplate BP's green gas station, Helio's House, and the potential positive implications of a greener filling station. Consider this moral mind bender of encouraging cleaner filing stations while pushing for more efficient combustion engines. As far as I am concerned, this is the correct approach but, I can already hear the rumblings focused on the big bad BP wolf. It gets better, BP has submitted an application to the U.S. Green Building Council and is seeking LEEDs certification.

Harkening back to one of the first posts on this blog, I touched on the merits of the free market mechanism as a means of solving the global warming crisis. Now, six months post the post, I feel even more strongly that capitalism in it's pure form IS the only way to create a lasting solution to the issue of climate change and long run pollution management.

Now, my favorite college professor, taught me that John Maynard Keynes exposed a phrase close to "in the long run we are all dead". Which leads me to propose that with a focus on the 'short run', we all observe Earth Day 2007 by keeping the car in the garage and either walking or riding a bicycle to and fro on this special green Sunday. For those with a fat wallet, an eye for art and a love of two wheeled transportation, I recommend viewing this site (but only after conserving energy where possible AND offsetting your carbon footprint).

Happy Earth Day to All, and to All a Good Night
